Building character. Testing excellence.
Charlie Tran is a committed teacher of piano and he also serves as director of the rock band at T.H. Rogers, a number one ranking public school. Before beginning his university studies, Charlie studied with renowned piano teacher and performer, Dr. Cameron Smith. He later graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Music degree from Moore's School of Music at the University of Houston while studying with Dr. Courtney Crappell, an award-winning collegiate piano teacher. Charlie's teaching philosophy is focused on discovering fun through music, and fun is only possible when students feel a sense of competency in what they're doing. At the piano, this involves a combination of musical understanding, healthy physical technique, and access to different musical styles. Some students are interested in classical music while others wish to play their favorite song on the radio. A piano teacher should be able to foster these different needs while enforcing proper physical technique in order to produce fluidity in bodily movement and thus, fluidity in music.
