Ioana Dirva

Ioana Dirva is a Romanian pianist and educator. She began studying piano at the age of six and attended Craiova’s specialized Music and Fine Arts School, where she completed her studies in the studio of distinguished piano pedagogue Mariana Ilie. Her early achievements included winning her first local piano competition at twelve and giving her first recital at thirteen.

Her distinctions include Fourth Prize at Romania’s National Music Olympiad, Third Prize at the Carl Filtsch International Piano Competition in Sibiu, and the Grand Prize at the International Piano Competition in Câmpina. She also participated in masterclasses in Romania and Germany with German pianist and pedagogue Walter Krafft.

Ioana earned her Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance from the Gheorghe Dima National Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca, Transylvania, where she studied with piano professors Daniel Goiți and Adriana Neculai and completed Levels I and II of psychopedagogical training for piano instruction.

She has performed as a soloist and collaborative pianist at festivals and cultural events in Romania, Bulgaria, Germany, and Armenia. She has also received distinctions for both solo and ensemble work. Her experience includes studio recording, live accompaniment for silent films, and cross-genre projects. These varied experiences have broadened her artistic perspective, while classical music has remained at the core of her musical identity.

Ioana is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy in Professor Timothy Hester’s studio at the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music, where she received a merit scholarship and is active as a collaborative pianist. With over twelve years of teaching experience, Ioana has taught students ranging from young beginners to adult learners. In 2014, she founded her own piano studio in Cluj-Napoca, where she guided more than 200 students at different stages of their musical development. Several of her students have continued their education at specialized music institutions, while others have earned recognition in competitions.

Ioana’s genuine care for her students and deep passion for teaching piano are at the heart of her work. She believes that technical development and musical sensitivity should grow together from the earliest stages of study. By creating a supportive and engaging environment tailored to each student’s needs and aspirations, she seeks to cultivate curiosity, discipline, and a lasting commitment to the art of piano playing.
