Jiaxian Zhou

Jiaxian Zhou, pianist, music educator, and chamber performer, won first place in the Elite International Music Competition in 2019. In February 2020, she performed for the first time at Carnegie Hall, where she played Claude Debussy’s “Etudes.” Jiaxian studied piano performance with Yuri Kim and Vladimir Valjarevic at the Mannes School of Music in New York, and she was awarded her first master’s degree this spring. She is going to pursue her second master’s degree in collaborative piano with professor Timothy Hester at the University of Houston.

As a performer Ms. Zhou excels both as a soloist and as a collaborator with chamber musicians. She has performed throughout the United Sates and China. Ms. Zhou was awarded first prize in the Tenth Shanghai International Youth Piano Competition in 2017, and third prize in the European Salzburg Music and Dance Festival Piano Competition in 2016. Ms. Zhou attended masterclass with Vladimir Feltsman, where her performance was highly praised by professor Feltsman. Jiaxian earned the highest honor in her major, piano, and was awarded a full scholarship for the duration of her degree program.

Jiaxian has many years of experience teaching and assisting students. She worked as Teaching Assistant for piano performance classes while she was pursuing her undergraduate degree from 2014 to 2018. Jiaxian teaches her students not only to learn pieces, but also to practice critical and independent thinking, along with other vital skills. She nurtures their interest in music by showing them how music can change people’s life.
