Yishan Xiao, born in China. She started learning piano at the age of six and began her professional music studies at the age of twelve at the Shenzhen Art School. Xiao earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in piano performance with honors from the Xinghai Conservatory of Music, where she studied under the renowned pianist, educator, and Steinway & Sons Artist, Dr. Vivian Li. During her studies at the XHCM, she was awarded the title of “Outstanding Student Cadre” and the first prize of the graduate scholarship and the second prize of comprehensive scholarship. Also, she served as a piano teaching assistant in the Department of Arts Management at XHCM and contributed to “2021 Guangdong Province Postgraduate Education Innovation Program Project.”

Xiao is currently pursing her doctoral degree in piano performance under the guidance of Dr. Tali Morgulis at the University of Houston. As an active pianist, Xiao has performed in many Houston venues such as the Moores Opera House, Cullen Performance Hall, the Museum of Fine Arts and Houston Methodist Hospital.

Xiao has participated and won prizes in the Guangzhou Open Piano Competition, Steinway & Sons National Youth Piano Competition (South China Region), Medici International Music Competition (UK), Piano Soloist Masters Category, etc. Xiao has earned the High School Music Teacher Qualification Certificate in 2020. With rich teaching experience, Xiao has been awarded “Outstanding Teacher” in various competitions, such as the 11th Asian International Arts Competition, the 6th Bastian International Piano Competition, the Concours international de piano de Versailles, France Competition 1er tour, District de Guangzhou, etc. She has also guided her students to achieve excellent results in various examinations such as ABRSM, China Music Association Piano Examination, Guangdong Province Social Arts Grading Test and so on.
